The Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia Artur Nahapetyan today presented a report on the activities of the Committee for 2024 to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to Artur Nahapetyan, the number of investigated criminal proceedings in 2024 compared to 2023 increased by 465 or 25.5%, and the number of completed proceedings increased by 313 or 58.4%. In total, the Committee investigated 2,289 criminal proceedings in 2024, of which 849 were completed. Out of the completed cases, 167 against 374 persons were sent to court with an indictment. In 2024, 175 public servants were brought to trial, including employees of ministries, inspection bodies, Yerevan Municipality, community and marz administrations.
In his closing speech, answering some questions from deputies, including the appropriateness of applying arrest as a measure of restriction, Artur Nahapetyan noted that, according to statistical data available at the Anti-Corruption Committee, only 34% of the detained had a petition filed with the court to apply the most severe measure of restriction - arrest. Moreover, out of 148 petitions filed, only 84 were satisfied, that is, about 56%, which is the best indicator confirming the absence of cases of mass arrests.
With respect to the information provided by the deputies on the alleged corruption crimes, Artur Nahapetyan called on the deputies to submit a written communication to the Anti-Corruption Committee if they have such information, assuring that a comprehensive and objective preliminary investigation will be conducted for each of these cases: “For the Anti-Corruption Committee, there are no former and present officials, there are current officials and there are persons dismissed, who are equal before the law and bear equal responsibility for both their actions and inaction. Therefore, if you have cases of corruption crimes that meet the requirements established by the Criminal Procedure Code, submit a written communication to the Committee,” the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee noted.
