Based on the preliminary investigation carried out in the RA Anti-Corruption Committee under the criminal proceedings, it has been proven that the director of one of the construction companies in Yerevan, A. T., attempted to bribe officials in the amount of AMD 80 million with the purpose to avoid possible urban planning obstacles during construction works on a site belonging to the said company.

In particular, the preliminary investigation established that A. T., with the aim of bribing officials of Yerevan Municipality for an extension of the construction permit issued for the construction of a multi-apartment building, addressed T. A. through his acquaintance G. G. The latter, however, not intending to address the aforementioned question to any official, with the intention of receiving funds under the pretext of mediation in a bribe, assured G. G. that he allegedly had acquaintances among competent officials of Yerevan Municipality, who could organize the elimination of possible obstacles to construction in the above-mentioned area, in exchange for a bribe in the amount of AMD 80 million.

Having accepted the offer to bribe the officials, A. T. transferred part of the required amount in the amount of AMD 40 million to G. G., of which AMD 25 million, based on the previously reached agreement, were transferred by G. G. to T. A. on December 6, 2022. However, after receiving the said amount, the latter did not transfer it to any official. In other words, a bribe in particularly large amounts to officials has not been implemented by A. T. due to circumstances beyond his control.

For committing the above-mentioned criminal acts, A. T. was charged under Article 46-436, Part 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code, and G. G. - under Article 44-46-436, Part 2, Clause 3.

The preliminary investigation under the criminal proceedings regarding the mentioned two defendants has been completed, and the materials of the proceedings have been sent to the court with the indictment for consideration on the merits.

Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against A. T. under Article 440, Part 2 the RA Criminal Code. Arrest was chosen as a measure of restriction against him, and a search has been announced.

Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
