The preliminary investigation, carried out under the criminal proceedings initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia on the basis of materials received from the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, revealed cases of demands and receipt of bribes in various amounts from citizens of IRI by an official of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
The preliminary investigation established that the customs inspector of Meghri customs checkpoint of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia V.M., under the threat of infringement of the rights of 11 truck drivers transporting various types and quantities of goods from the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, within the period from April 5 to April 10, 2024, regularly received bribes from them. In particular, the customs inspector of the State Revenue Committee, under the threat of unnecessary delay of the vehicles of the mentioned drivers and cargo and thereby creating an obstacle in the process of making notes in the accompanying documents and in the electronic information system in accordance with the order established by the legislation of the EAEU, demanded and received a small bribe from them.
For receiving a bribe, the customs inspector of the State Revenue Committee V.M. was charged under Article 436, Part 2, Clause 4 of the RA Criminal Code (11 episodes).
As a measure of restriction, arrest was applied against V.M.
The preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings has been completed; the materials of the proceedings have been sent to the court with an indictment for consideration on the merits.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
