The preliminary investigation under the criminal proceedings initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia on the basis of materials received from the Internal Security and Anti-Corruption Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia has revealed a case of receiving a bribe from a citizen of the Republic of India by a police patrol officer.
In particular, in the course of the mentioned criminal proceedings, as a result of investigative actions carried out jointly with the Department of Internal Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, it was established that at the beginning of March 2024, on Kievyan Street of Yerevan city, two patrol police officers stopped a car driven by a citizen of the Republic of India, and requested to present documents, after which police officer V.A. demanded a bribe from him in the amount of AMD 20,000 in order not to draw up a report on an administrative offense for failure to undergo a technical inspection of a vehicle in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Armenia. At the same time, V.A. stated that in case of non-payment, he would take the driver’s license from the citizen of the Republic of India. As a result of bargaining, they agreed on a bribe in the amount of AMD 7,000.
V.A. was charged under Article 435, Part 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code. The latter pleaded fully guilty to the charges.
The preliminary investigation under the criminal proceedings has been completed; the materials of the proceedings have been sent to the court with an indictment for consideration on the merits.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
