The Chairman of RA Аnti-corruption Committee received the delegation led by Richard Nephew, Coordinator of the US State Department on Global Anti-corruption. The delegation also included Kristen Fresonk, the head of the US State Department's Global Anti-Corruption Coordination Group, Chip Laitinen, the US Deputy Ambassador to Armenia, and Alexis Haftvani, the Director of Cooperation Program of the US Embassy in Armenia on fight against narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL).
Sasun Khachatryan presented the main directions and priorities of the Committee's activity, referred to the results recorded in the fight against corruption, noting that compared to 2022, the number of cases examined in the Committee's proceedings and sent to the court with an indictment increased by 98.8 percent, and the number of people prosecuted increased by 96.5 percent, which is due to the increase in the effectiveness of the fight against corruption and the increase in disclosures.
Richard Nephew, who also chaired the 10th session of the Conference of Member States of the UN Convention against Corruption, held in Atlanta, USA, last December, thanked the Chairman of the Committee Sasun Khachatryan for ensuring a serious and high level of representation of Armenia at that conference and noted that active steps must now be taken to implement the anti-corruption resolutions adopted during the conference. At the same time, Richard Nephew emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the fight against corruption, taking into account that corruption itself is a global problem at the international level, the solution of which requires joint will and effort.
During the meeting, the necessity to invest the latest information technologies and acquire equipment with greater technical feasibilities was also touched upon, for the purpose of increasing the efficiency of the investigation. The American side expressed its readiness to continue support in developing the potential of the anti-corruption committee and improving the professional skills of employees within the framework of the US Embassy's Anti-Narcotics and Law Enforcement Cooperation Program (INL).
