With the purpose to expand cooperation with Law Enforcement Agencies of the Italian Republic, specializing in the fight against corruption, and to study the rich experience of the latters, the delegation led by the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia Sasun Khachatryan visited the Italian Republic from November 14 to 18, 2023. The visit was carried out within the framework of the "TAIEX" program of the European Union.
As part of the visit, meetings were held with the leaders of the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Guard) of Italy, the General Headquarters of the Carabinieri and their special operational group, the Department of Planning and Coordination of Police, as well as the anti-mafia Investigation Unit. During the meetings, the advanced experience of the aforementioned structures in the fight against corruption and organized crime and the mechanisms of using the latest modern information technologies in their activities were studied. Intelligence operational issues were also discussed. Agreements were reached with the Carabineri General Headquarters and the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Guard) on organization of trainings for the operational officers of RA Anticorruption Committee in the mentioned structures.
Armenian experience was also presented during the meetings, and the importance of international cooperation in the fight against corruption was highlighted. The Chairman of the Anti-corruption committee, Sassoon Khachatryan, stressed the need for a unified fight against corruption, since today it is not only a problem of individual states, but also a transnational phenomenon, which makes active international cooperation and the implementation of complex works aimed at its prevention and control even more important.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to the Italian Republic H. E. Tsovinar Ambartsumyan was also present at the meetings.
During the visit, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation was signed between the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Guard) of Italy and the Anti-corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
The Armenian delegation emphasized the experience and skills gained during the visit and expressed hope that the cooperation between the two countries in the field of fighting corruption will enhance in the near future and will be of a continuous nature. The representatives of the Italian Law Enforcement structures, from their part, expressed their readiness to contribute to the development of collegial relationship with the Armenian side and implementation of concrete projects on exchange of experience and professional training within these frameworks.
