The preliminary investigation carried out in RA Anti-Corruption Committee under the criminal proceedings, justified that A. M., carrying out the position of the acting head of the Department of Economics at “Shirak State University named after M. Nalbandyan” Foundation since August 23, 2022, using the influence of his official powers, received funds at the amount of more than AMD 900,000 as a bribe for committing illegal actions in favor of a number of students in 2022-2023.
In particular, the preliminary investigation revealed that for compiling master's theses for three students of the above-mentioned university, as well as for the successful conduct of the further pre-defense, A.M. required and received a bribe from them in the total amount of AMD 450,000, after which the said students defended the master's theses and got high scores.
In addition, A.M., using the influence due to his official powers, for positive scores for a number of other students in the exams of the 2022-2023 academic semester, as well as for the preparation of master’s theses and their positive assessment, received a bribe in the amount of AMD 20,000 from each of them, and a total of AMD 340,000.
It was also justified in the criminal proceedings, that for positive assessment of course works and exams in subjects to retake, A. M. required and received from another two students a bribe in the amount of AMD 60,000.
For extorting and receiving bribes in various amounts from 19 students A.M. was charged under Article 435, part 2, point 3 of the Criminal Code of RA. The latter declared himself fully guilty to the charges and made a confession. Decisions were made not to prosecute, and cease the criminal prosecution against the students who bribed A. M. on the basis of active repentance.
The criminal investigation has been completed.
The materials of the proceedings with the indictment have been handed over to the supervisory prosecutor with a request to approve them and send to the court.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
