As a result of the activities carried out by the operative-intelligence department of the RA Anti-Corruption Committee, factual data were obtained that the head of the Martuni Military Police Territorial Unit of the RA Ministry of Defense, E. A., received a bribe in a large sum of 570,000 AMD for committing an illegal act for the benefit of the person identified by the bribe payer.
In particular, it was found out that S.G., the father of a conscript soldier of military unit N of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, turned to the storekeeper of the "Military Sports Academy named after Monte Melkonyan" Foundation -G.G. with a request to help him give a bribe to an official for not registering and not considering a case about the discovery of a prohibited item with a military serviceman. The latter, with the intention of helping to give a bribe, addressed the indicated question to his close friend, the head of the Martuni territorial unit of the military police of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia E.A., who accepted the offer of a bribe.
Then E.A., using his official and managerial powers and the influence resulting from them, committed unlawful inaction in favor of the military serviceman, for not registering and not considering the case of the discovery of a prohibited item in the latter’s possession, and with the help of storekeeper G.G., received a bribe in a large amount of AMD 570,000 via bank transfer from the serviceman's father on September 12, 2023.
By the way, during the search conducted during the preliminary investigation, ammunition stored without legal grounds was found in the offices of the officials of the MP Unit.
On 26.10.2023, the head of the Martuni Military Police Territorial Unit of the Ministry of Defense, E. A., S. H., who bribed the latter, and G. G., who assisted him, were detained.
The head of the Territorial Unit of the Martuni MP was charged under Article 435, part 2, points 2 and 3 of the RA Criminal Code, and G. G. - under Article 46-436, part 2, points 2 and 3 of the RA Criminal Code. An investigator of the Anti-Corruption Committee filed a motion with the court to select arrest as a measure of restriction towards E.A., which was granted by the court.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
