Vassilis Maragos, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, met with the Chairman of the RA Anti-Corruption Committee, Sasun Khachatryan.
Welcoming the Ambassador, the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee congratulated him on his appointment and presented the results of the Committee’s activity over the past two years. Sasun Khachatryan, in particular, referred to the indicators recorded in the fight against corruption crimes, noting that compared to the same period of the previous year, the efficiency of detecting corruption cases has increased significantly, which is due to a number of factors, including the organization and implementation of operative and investigative works by one structure, as well as active cooperation with other state bodies in the detection of corruption cases.
During the meeting, the strengthening of existing cooperation ties with the European Union in various directions in the fight against corruption was emphasized on both sides. The possibilities of implementing more substantive and concrete steps in the near future within the framework of that cooperation were discussed.
The ambassador noted that within the framework of the Comprehensive and Extended Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union, the EU has taken responsibility to support Armenia in the fight against corruption, contributing to the prevention of corruption and increasing the effectiveness of the investigation of corruption-related crimes. Therefore, the parties have agreed to specify the practical steps for the implementation of joint programs, as well as to consider the prospects of developing more effective cooperation through the introduction of European best practices.
