As a result of the large-scale operational-investigative measures carried out by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee officers, as well as the secret investigative operations carried out against individual officials of the RA Ministry of Defense, factual information was obtained that occupying the position of the head of the conscription unit of the Syunik marz territorial unit of the RA Ministry of Defense conscription and recruitment service, S. D. demanded and received a particularly large bribe of 23 thousand US dollars from the conscript's father in order to commit an illegal act in favor of the conscript.
In particular, it was found that resident of Yerevan city G. H. reached an agreement with the above-mentioned official of the Ministry of Defense so that the latter assists him to declare his son, who is to be drafted in the summer of 2023, unfit for the draft on the basis of a fictitious illness in return for a bribe. In order to realize their criminal intent, G. H. and S. D. took agreed measures, as a result of which G. H.'s son, residing in Yerevan city, was officially registered in Goris community of Syunik marz, thus being included in the service area of the draft department headed by S. D.
Then, according to the previously reached agreement, the official of the Ministry of Defense S. D., using his official powers and the influence caused by them, personally received a particularly large bribe of 23,000 USD equivalent to 8,887,000 AMD from G. H. on May 21, 2023 for the implementation of the above mentioned illegal act in favour for the son of G. H.
The official of the Ministry of Defense and the person who bribed him were detained on 02.08.2023 and presented to the Anti-Corruption Committee. On the same day, they were charged, respectively, with receiving and paying particularly large bribes. The anti-corruption committee investigator filed petitions to the court to select arrest as a measure of restriction against them, which were granted.
The preliminary investigation is underway.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
