As a result of operational-search measures within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated by the RA National Security Service and investigated by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee, as well as investigative and procedural actions, factual data was obtained that H. S., holding the position of dean of the faculty of economics and management of Yerevan State University since 2000, associate professor of the chair of the same faculty G. T. in a group with and other lecturers, in the period from February to March 2023, demanded and received different amounts of money as bribes in exchange for committing illegal acts for the benefit of students studying in different courses of the faculty. In particular, in order to organize the process of assigning positive grades to the student of the faculty without actually checking the knowledge, G. T. demanded a bribe of 120,000 AMD for each exam, a total of 480,000 AMD, and then informed faculty dean H. S. about it. Having received the consent of the dean, G. T. with the latter appealed to the professors who accepted the exams with a request to assign a positive grade to the said student. As a result, the student received positive grades without the necessary knowledge test.
In addition, dean H. S. his deputy, associate professor of the chair of the same faculty A. N. in return for making concessions, patronage and illegal actions in favor of another student received brandy and $4,000 bribes from P.H.
In the same period, dean H. S. both personally and as a member of the group associate professor G. T. received bribes from two other students of the faculty, in exchange for assigning positive grades in the examination process without testing their knowledge, thus committing illegal acts in favour of them.
The preliminary investigation also revealed that G. T. as part of the group with another lecturer of the faculty A. M., using their official powers, received a bribe in exchange for organizing and carrying out the process of positively evaluating the exam scheduled for March 2023 of a student indicated by A.M. without a real knowledge test.
On 24.05.2023, dean of YSU Faculty of Economics and Management H. S., his deputy, two professors of the same faculty and 5 other people who bribed them, were detained.
On the same day, the dean, his deputy and the mentioned two lecturers were charged under the part 2 of article 435 of the RA Criminal Code.
Motions were submitted to the court by the investigator of the RA anti-corruption committee to select arrest as a measure of restriction against them.
The preliminary investigation is underway.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
