In the course of the criminal proceedings carried out by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee, cases of receiving bribes by A.A., the deputy head of the operational division of the "Convicts' hospital" penitentiary institution of the RA Penitentiary Service from a prisoner and a convict of the same penitentiary institution, were revealed.

During the preliminary investigation, evidence was obtained that A.A. demanded 200,000 AMD bribe from the convict for patronage and indulgence in favor of the convict A.S. of the penitentiary institution, that is, for showing a favorable attitude towards the latter and not creating problems, as well as for not confiscating the mobile phone, which is a prohibited item. After that, on May 30, 2022, the mentioned amount of bribe was transferred from the bank account of the convict A. S.'s wife to the bank account registered in the name of A. A.'s wife, an official of the penitentiary institution, but actually managed by A. A.

Besides, the same official received a bribe for a favorable attitude towards the prisoner of the indicated penitentiary institution A.G., who had the highest position in the criminal hierarchy, the so-called “thief in law”, for not creating problems, and also for not seizing a mobile phone, in a total amount of 448,600 drams through transfers from payment terminals made by affiliated persons on different days, which were again transferred to the bank account of the official's wife.

Thus, with the bank transfers made, the official of the penitentiary institution received bribes for illegal actions in both cases.

During the preliminary investigation, convict A.S. and  detainee A. G. of the "Convicts’ hospital" penitentiary institution were charged under point 3 of part 2 of article 436 and the deputy head of the operative division of the said penitentiary institution, A.A., was charged under point 3 of part 2 of article 435 of the RA Criminal Code (2 episodes).

Arrest was applied to A. A. as a measure of restriction.

The preliminary investigation on the criminal proceeding has been completed. The materials of the proceeding with the indictment were handed over to the supervising prosecutor with a request to approve it and send it to the court.

Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
