Cases of accepting bribes by A. A., deputy head of the Operational division of the "Hospital of Convicts" Penitentiary Institution of the RA Penitentiary Service from a prisoner and a convict of the same Penitentiary Institution were revealed within the criminal proceedings initiated in the RA Anti-Corruption Committee.
During the preliminary investigation, factual data was obtained that A. A. demanded a bribe of AMD 200,000 from A.S., the convict of the PI in exchange of patronage and indulgence in favor of the same convict, namely, for for showing a favorable attitude towards him and not creating problems, as well as for not confiscating the mobile phone, which is a prohibited item. After that, on May 30, 2022, the mentioned amount of bribe was transferred from the bank account of the convict A.S.’s wife to the bank account registered under the name of the wife of PI official A.A., but which was actually managed by A.A.
Besides, in order to show favour to A.D., prisoner of the same penitentiary institution, with the highest status in the criminal hierarchy, the so-called "thief in law", not to create problems, as well as not to confiscate the mobile phone, the above-mentioned official demanded from the said prisoner a total of AMD 448,600 bribe, which he received through transfers made to the same bank account registered in the name of his wife, from payment terminals on different days by persons related to the prisoner.
On February 28, 2023 four persons were detained within the framework of the said criminal proceedings.
On March 2, 2023 A.S., the convict of the "Hospital of Convicts" Penitentiary Institution, was charged under point 3 of part 2 of article 436, and A.A. the deputy head of the operative division of the said Penitentiary Institution was charged under point 3 of part 2 of article 435 (2 counts) of the RA Criminal Code.
On the same day, the investigator filed a petition to the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan City, to select taking into custody as a measure of restriction against A.A., which was granted.
The preliminary investigation is underway.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
