Sasun Khachatryan, the Chairman of the RA Anti-Corruption Committee, met with the students of the Faculty of Journalism of Yerevan State University today within the framework of the "Anti-Corruption Media School" program, and introduced them to the functions of the structure he leads, referred to the mechanisms of the fight against corruption, as well as the public perception of this phenomenon, specifics of coverage of corruption and, in general legal topics.
Sasun Khachatryan presented a number of important factors necessary for an effective fight against corruption to the future journalists interested in the legal field. According to him, in order to succeed in the anti-corruption fight today, not only the work of law enforcement agencies, but also the involvement of the public and the demonstration of intolerance by the society towards this phenomenon is important, the premise of which is proper anti-corruption education.
During the speech, the need to impartially convey the information to the audience and competently cover the legal sphere by media representatives was also touched. Some issues related to the ethics of journalistic work, including the importance of not contradicting the basic principles of journalism in order to attract a large audience were discussed.
During the question-and-answer session with the students, the Chairman of the Anti-corruption Committee also presented some statistical and informational data of interest to future journalists regarding the results of the activities of the newly created structure for about one and a half year, including the investigation of corruption crimes, damage caused to the state and recoveries thereof.
