Chairman of the RA Anti-Corruption Committee Sasun Khachatryan received the delegation led by James Applegate, Director of the Europe and Asia Programs of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the U.S. Department of State.
Expressing gratitude to the American side for close cooperation, Sasun Khachatryan, Chairman of the RA Anti-Corruption Committee, presented to the delegation the key achievements and main challenges recorded during the first year of the Committee's formation, stating that the Committee is determined and has the necessary will to fight corruption effectively.
As an important progress, the Chairman of the Committee singled out the rooting of awareness of the inevitability of responsibility, especially among state officials and the public, which is evidenced by the fact that the bodies of the state administration system and law enforcement agencies speak up about the corruption cases they encounter.
During the meeting, the results and new opportunities of joint work with INL were also discussed, including the technical assistance programs aimed at improving the fight against corruption, issues related to personnel recruitment, training and legislative reforms.
James Applegate, in his turn, referring to the effectiveness of the cooperative ties formed with the Anti-Corruption Committee, emphasized the need for a change of mentality especially in the fight against corruption, stating that it is already noticeable in Armenia.
The latter also attached importance to the implementation of various training programs for operative and investigative staff of the Anti-Corruption Committee, noting that INL expresses its readiness to deepen cooperation with the newly established agency and continue the support provided to the Committee.
